Day 49

radio_frequency2-day49

Certain modes of communication require specific frequencies and power to transmit information clearly. Tuned to a frequency just one degree off, a radio station’s signal is received, at best, as static. Cell phone conversations disconnect when one person travels outside the area of coverage. Even in face-to-face communication, a person can fail to understand the intended meaning of another’s words. This was the case with Jesus and His disciples.

Jesus spent many hours talking with His disciples. They accompanied Him as He spoke to thousands of people. Though communication was ongoing, their ears were often tuned to a different frequency: one of their own understanding, a frequency of lies. That changed dramatically with the coming of the Holy Spirit. The very men who struggled to understand and believe Jesus now heard God clearly through His indwelling Counselor and Teacher. They became men of bold faith. This finely tuned frequency to God’s voice is available to you as well.

With the Word of God as His primary tool, the Holy Spirit reveals truth. At times, He reveals truth by convicting us of sin, which is rooted in lies. Conviction is not condemnation:

“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

When God convicts, He seeks to convince and persuade us to the utmost degree. It’s a gracious act by a loving God. He convicts us so we will believe and live by His truth. Jesus promised in John 16:7-11 that the Holy Spirit will:

  1. Reveal areas where you are not believing God.
  2. Convince you of your true identity in Christ and reveal the righteousness in which you can walk.
  3. Convince you that Satan has been condemned and that the power of sin over you has therefore been broken.

We need to hear His Voice continually. Tune your ears to hear God speaking these truths to you. They are ringing out loudly and clearly. May they be music to your ears!

“If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:31-32
